Hi, I live in Mexico and I'm considering to buy the new dell 1420, but the only difference from the one is sold in the U.S. is the wireless network card. In the U.S. is sold the Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card, while in Mexico the option is Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 (802.11 a/g) (54Mbps) (IP3945). So my question is how much better the first one is? And if you think the second one is nice, or I must wait for the next-gen card? Thank you for your help.

The general consensus is that the previous gen a/g Intel card is vastly inferior to the competition, namely Atheros. I personally have never tried it, but at least the draft N card (which I have) is on par with the Atheros. Search for "intel wireless" on some boards; Thinkpad forum has this discussion: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=46451&highlight=intel+wireless

If I were you I would just get a cheap card and buy an external orinco card for its promiscuous mode :p
