I'm trying to get my new laptop to be able to access content on my desktop and I need some serious help to get this to work. I'm a complete novice at this stuff. The laptop is running windows vista, the desktop has windows xp professional. Both computers have Norton Antivirus and are currently connected to the internet through the same network. I just need help setting up a public folder or something where each one can talk to eachother. Also, is it possible to print wirelessly to a printer? If so, I'd like to set that up to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to turn on File and Printer Sharing on. Need to set the workgroup to the same, xp & vista def are different.

Then you need to set a trusted zone in your firewall, so each computer can talk to each other.

Print wirelessly, do you have a printer that is wireless. Or do you have a printer connect to a PC that you share, or network printer. Use add a printer and follow the instructions..

On XP right clink on My Computer, select Properties, then Computer Name. XP defaults to workgroup. Vista defaults to something else. I slept last night and don't recall or own MEII aka vista.

Use the ping cmd from a Dos Window to see if you can reach the other pc. Don't rely on Explorer finding it.
