I don't know if this is the right forum to ask but I will give it a try. I have a Dell XPS M1710 Notebook and an older Dell Desktop. The desktop is wired directly to my wireless router and the notebook is connected wireless. After almost completly losing my notebook and all of my data, I would like to backup all my data on both computers. Is there a way that I can have my two computers mirror each other so if one goes down I just move over to the other computer and pick up where I left off, kinda like raided hard drives.

Hope you only talk about data... depends how you define "just move over...". If you create your documents either online or on a network share you can reach it from anywhere.

In my case in Vista I use sync center to sync my outlook and my documents etc. Documents I like to access anywhere I put them online. I also have synctoy (also XP) pairs setup for photo's. You can make backups to a network share. You could also invest in a Windows Home Server, which is in my opinion the best solution.

You can mirror your laptop onto your desktop.

Should you? probably not. The different hardware dictate that you need two different windows installations.

IMO, you are better off sorting backup copies of your laptop on your desktop.

Or just sync your important data using AllWay sync, Microsoft's Sync toy, or GoodSync.

My favorite solution is to use Vista's Offline files. If you store your important files on your desktop, you can connect to it on your laptop using a fileshare. Then Vista's Sync Center will make local copies of the files on your laptop. Any changes made while you are away from your network are cached and immediately synced when you reconnect to your home wifi.

Beats any other sync solution IMO.

Since I don't have Vista what would be your next favorite?
