Hey, I have an Asus G73SW with an Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter. I have had too much trouble with this card, and apparently a lot of people don't like it so I am looking to replace it.

I was looking at the Intel 6200/6205/6300 cards, but I don't really understand the difference or know how many antennae my laptop has. Any advice on which card to get? Your suggestions can be cards I haven't mentioned too.

    Thanks!!

You have two antennas in the G73, i'd go for the 6200 or 6205.

Thanks! Do you know the difference between the two? The researching I did just confused me.

Edit: Just to be super clear, the difference between 6200 and 6205

6205 supports WiMax, the 6200 does not, it's the only difference.

Wasn't it 6250 that supported Wimax?

I checked and it looks like you're right. Gosh, it used to be 6200 and 6300, but now we got the 6205, 6230, 6250...

Now, we need to find what the 6205 has over the 6200.

Oh man, not even more choices lol. What even is WiMax? And I found out that 6230 is bluetooth, which I don't think I'll need.

On Intel's product compare list, the only difference between 6200 and 6205 is that 6200 is 802.11 a/g/n whereas 6205 is 802.11 b/g/n. I don't know the difference between that info either though :/.

802.11a is a legacy 5GHz standard that's never been popular and is not in widespread use.
802.11b is an old 11mbps standard too so nothing lost here.

Since I don't know much of what that means, do you have a suggestion on which of the two I should get?

Personally, i'd just get the cheapet of the two and call it a day. I'm pretty sure the 6205 does 5GHz too.

If both are priced the same go for 6205- if either one is cheaper go for the cheaper one.

EDIT: I actually have one more question. The 6230 is less than a dollar more expensive than the 6200, should I just get that one just in case I ever need to use bluetooth? Seems like it can't hurt.

(Decided to leave this in even though I haven't decided on a card.)Thanks guys! I think I'm going to go with the 6200. The only price difference was 1 dollar, but everywhere I searched it also had more reviews so I could feel better with more people having used that card.

You were both a great help!
