Ok if someone can PLEASE help me get this working I will be in debt to you forever! I have had this router since they came out its a V1 and i have never been able to get the stupid twonky server to work.

I read somewhere a few months back you can install the v2 firmware on the v1 and twonky was working fine so i ran the firmware update and sure enough v2 firmware works on the v1. Everything seems to work fine but still no twonky. the firmware version i have is...
    Firmware Version: 2.00.00 B05

now i would switch to a dd-wrt firmware if i can still have the twonky working but really the firmware version or type makes no difference to me i just want to get the damned twonky working.

can somoene please help me to get it to work? I have emailed twonky and linksys and neither have been able to help they just point me in the direction of each other.

    this is my settings....

    administration tab
    Upnp is enabled
allow users to configure is enabled
allow users to disable internet access is disabled

Under the storage tab for disc i created a share and it works fine i have it mapped as a drive and can access the files r/w.

for the media server tab for upno media server i have it enabled

i point it to a single directoy on the drive with 1 video on it save changes and it shows that. now if i hit scan it will just sit there forever and do nothing so i hit the back button on my browser and it will still show the settings saved.

Turn on the 360 and it will not find anything.

i am lost.. why cant i get this to work?

I am trying on a 1tb external with NTFS. i have also tried with a thumb drive and let the router format it and no success either.

I only tried to get mine to access, which worked, but I never tried it for media. I did have better luck mapping it with an IP as opposed to mapping with WINS names though. Maybe you can try that.

Keep in mind though that USB is SLOW and worse, routers lack computing power.

If you try to stream and do much else with the drive, you really start having performance issues over USB. Also, routers don't have the power to really push through high loads well. Take a look at low end NAS boxes and you start to see it takes some power to really get decent transfer rates.

Using your router like this works, but it's not a great system by any means. There is a good chance that you will be unhappy with it once you get it going. My advice is find an old, cheap computer, try Craigslist, garage sales, etc... and build yourself a small file server. In the end you will be MUCH happier as this can handle your downloads, file sharing, media serving, and MUCH more without breaking a sweat or slowing down. It doesn't need much power, I used a p3 900 with a sata card, then with gigabit ethernet card for a while just because it was handy and used very little in the way of power.

what about just buying a Acer Aspire Revo AR3700-U3002 and loading it with xbmc or boxee?

While Atoms and Atom based NAS boxes seem to be the rage at the moment, they too lack the power to really stream fast.

And why spend $200+ on a file server anyhow, much less $350.

Look on Ebay for "HP Compaq DC7100", you can find these mini workstation/desktops used for about $120 shipped (It's what I'm using).

They have an Intel 915 chipset with a P4 processor, Windows XP, 40gig Sata hard drive, DVD (ATA), and up to 2 gigs of ram. Inside is an extra drive bay and Sata port, it also has PCIE and gigabit ethernet. I swapped out the 40 gig for a 1Tb, and at idle uses 30 watts at the wall. An Atom will use 25 or so, but even 30 is nothing, your router uses 10-16 and your bathroom nightlight uses 25. Typical transfer rates for a 1gig file for an Atom based setup is around 20-40MBps (this can vary depending on parts (small files are slower on all systems). Cheap NAS boxes like the popular D-link is around 12-22. With an old Maxtor 1TB, 1.5gig ram, I average around 100MBps for large files. My HD and partitioning scheme is costing me a dozen or so MBps :), not that it really matters as I'm not far from saturating the gigabit connection as it is.

yeah but i dont think a p4 is going to handle 1080P those atom with ion2 gpu's from what i hear can handle 1080p.

but yes if i cant get twonky working off my router which i cant so far then i would like a low power alternative that can rock 1080p video no prob and run xbmc or boxee

If you do anything on that system while playing 1080p, video will suffer. Atoms are only capable because of the Ion, otherwise, forget it.

I'm not sure if my box could either, but I can always add a low power video card if needed. An 8400 with a P4 can do it from what I hear. That's the thing, if you need it, add it, if you don't take it out.
