Folks - spotted a belkin F5D8635 router + ADSL modem and bought it .. It was working fine for a few months and all of a sudden, it has been acting up pretty bad - it's so worse that I'm not able to use my internet connection at all.

I've upgraded to even beta firware (v 1.25) but it does not help.

    Following are the problems

    1) frequent disconnects
    2) absolutely does not do any data transfer when I'm downloading any files thru torrents.
    3) transferring large files across the network is never successful.

Any help? I'm not having the original packaging, so returning the router is not possible.

Alternatively, any suggestions on a cheap and stable router / modem combination? I'm coming from a 3com router and it was rock solid - performed flawlessly for more than 4-5 years!

What you have is a typical Belkin Router, surprised it worked that long. Contact Belkin and get a rma, they will replace it under warranty.

By looking at the led's can you tell if the modem side is connected? I do not like combo units for this reason, one goes down brings everything down.

May power it down over night and let it cool off and try in the morning. Or take it an put in the frig for an hour and see if it comes up.
