Ok So I got all excited about getting internet for our new home...(unfortunately I had to go w/ DSL, since Cable from Crap-cast wasn't available in the new neighborhood).

So I got a DLink 2320B DSL modem matched w/ a DLink 4500 Wireless router (I didn't want to pay $75.00 for AT&T's POS modem & router for an additional $7.50/month).

So all is well when I game, surf the web, but when I turn on my "downloads"...

the internet works for literally 5-10 minutes max, and quits...I have to hit "repair" in order to get the internet back online...sometimes I have to "power cycle" aka un-plug & re-plug the modem & router, in order for the internet to work again...

So this literally continues all day yesterday...frustrated, I tried resetting the router & modem several times...w/ the same results...

So is AT&T dicking me by throttling my bandwidth? or is AT&T DSL a POS? ...I don't think their's anything wrong w/ the router or modem...b/c I tried connecting via Ethernet cable to the router & modem w/ the same results...ie. I connected first to the router (internet works w/ no issues until I turn on my downloads and the same results when I disconnect the router and connect directly to the modem...)

any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

    thanks in advance, Yang!

Check your router and modem settings.

I've been using Bellsouth (Now AT&T) DSL for a few years with a router and I have no problems downloading and surfing.

btw what type of "downloads" are you talking about? Torrents?

I don't have this problem whatsoever. I do however encounter a "internet shut down" from time to time. Sometimes, I would not be able to access the internet if I do not unplug the modem and the router. Quite weird if you ask me.. AT&T claims that it is fine. I think it's frustrating.

See if your DSL led is staying green continusly. I had a fried that had there service, and it was bouncing up and down. They sent a tech out and found that the dsl line was under powered so the connection was be dropped. They raised the signal and no more problems. Another thing that is greatly over looked is line polarity. Some old house have been in the polarity was reversed. On analog phones and most digital it does not matter. But when it comes to modems it can. Get a cheap line tester and check the polarity. You may be surprised on what you find. Like 1 jack in the whole house wired backwards, with a phone connection, impacts the whole house.

I was worried about the phone lines, b/c my home is a new construction...so I tested all the phone jacks to see if it was maybe my modem or router being the culprit to my issues, but all my phone jacks are down except for the master bedroom...so I have to wait until Friday for the builder/electrician to check all the lines

hopefully this will resolve my internet issues...

also the light on my modem stays green whenever it goes down, sometimes a simple "repair" will work, but most of the time I have to "power" cycle both the modem & router

thanks for the help everyone, hopefully I'll have everything resolved this weekend
