    Hi,

I need to replace a Atheros ar9485 wifi from my Asus K73SD laptop. I want to go with Intel. I need it to support 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz. It would be optimal if the card had BT support also but that is not a requirement. What to choose?

I'm looking at the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 (with BlueTooth) or the Ultimate N WiFi Link 6300. But other recommendations are more than welcome - I have never purchased a wifi for a laptop before. I just want something that works hassle-free with W7 and W8.

    Thanks.

Either of those should be fine- 6230 works fine in most cases but in some- mainly in Dell notebooks- it had issues.
Intel 6300 is a three stream card requiring three antennas to work at its max capacity and a three stream router- if you don't have either of those it works just like 6200 would have.

So I guess 6230 is the best choice for you- just don't buy one meant for Lenovo notebooks.

Thanks. Just gotta be sure of what you say - are there 6230 models specific for Lenovo? If yes, then how do I tell which 6230 is for Lenovo and which aren't?

Those meant for Lenovo don't work on other machines but sellers almost always mark them Lenovo.
If you're buying on eBay just ask the seller for confirmation.

    I've ordered a non-Lenovo 6230, thanks for your help.
