The boss is going to remove our internet if we keep downloading stuff all day and all night.
I live and work in a remote area. The crew appartment is attached to our main Hangar.Their are approx 8 people living here at a time. The level of "personal" network activity slows down the office network during office hours. This is caused by guys leaving their laptops on during the day and either knowingly downloading stuff or just having a ton of malware and bloatware running in the background.
The employer also pays extra after a certain amount of Gigs/day downloaded.
Normal users as you know dont keep a nice clean installs and its well beyond them to clean their systems, asking them to stop downloading movies and music hasn't really worked either as they are a rotating staff.

I plan on using the routers parental controls to disable the router during 8-5 workday.

My question for everyone is, is their a router that can limit individuals downloading bandwidth or limit bytes downloaded. If you had 8 people that had to share 2gigs/day evenly what would you use?

you'll need a router (or a smart switch) that can do Quality of Service (QoS). Plenty of them out there.

Look here for a third party firmware solution.
That can cost you nothing if you already have a router that can work with OpenWRT/Gargoyle or not that much if you end up buying a consumer router just to set it up.

Tomato and dd-wrt as well if they support your router
