    Hey forum,

I recently formatted my laptop with Win XP/Pro ( Original O/S was XP Home).

I then went to Sony UK website to download and install all the appropriate drivers & utilities.

All of these drivers have been installed and appear to run very well, however, when I try to enable the Wireless Drivers the whole laptop just freezes at which point I have no other choice other than to force a shut down then boot up in safe-mode before removing these drivers from the device manager.

Is there another way to enable these drivers without it freezing ? I figured that since the drivers came from Sony's own site they'd work no problem. Maybe the drivers are conflicting with the newly installed O/S ( XP Pro).

Maybe there's another set of wireless drivers I can install from another Sony PCG K-Series model ? I'm out of idea's guy's.

I did try installing a wireless adapter which a friend let me borrow to test the wireless card was working Ok, which it did as I was able to install the disk, run and install all drivers etc and the wireless worked fine. I have since removed these drivers from the add/remove programs list.

Please try to help guy's, I cant continue to sit on the stairs with my laptop connected via ethernet to the router much longer.

    Regards,

    Sid.

What exactly is the device being shown on your Sony? Have you tried the Intel 2100 PRO/Wireless driver? If yes, which version so far?

    cheers ...

    Hi qhn
    .
    Thanks for the reply.

The device displayed in Device Manager is:

    LAN-Express AS IEEE 802.11a miniPCI Adapter #2
LAN-Express AS IEEE 802.11a miniPCI Adapter #2 - Packet Scheduler Miniport

They are both disabled, it's when I enable them that the Laptop freezes up.

I did try un-installing them and then went on to Intels site to search for the Intel's 2100 Pro/Wireless driver as you suggested however the same thing is happening, it too freezes after I run the set-up and install.

I have since disabled them both again.

    Hope this helps.

did you install the original drivers or the updated drivers?

I would try the original ones and then let Windows Update do the update rather than using the updates

    Hi Gerry,

They are the original drivers which are installed, and of course windows update is turned aswell, however it never runs an update for WLAN drivers.

Again, with these original or the updated drivers, it's the problem with it freezing up whenever I enable them.

    :(

Hmmm, OK...this is a bit of a long shot, but are you absolutely certain that this is the card in your laptop? I was working on a Sony about two months ago and even though it had a label on it for one model, as it turned out it was a completely different model with completely different parts.

It was driving me right up a freaking wall.

None of the drivers from the sony site were working so I hooked up another network card I carry with me and connected to the sony site--on the support page, there was an autodetect activex componant and when I ran that, it took me to a completely different model's page than the sticker on the back indicated and, as it turned out, all of the drivers from the new page matched the hardware.
