I just got a new Dell Studio 1737, and I'm trying to connect to my home linksys network. I know almost nothing about computers, not dumb blonde nothing but nothing compared to anyone who actually uses their command prompts. My laptop shows the network on its connect to a network only sporadically, and when I do click to get it to connect it fails, every time. I have tried connecting every way I know how, but nothing works, except when I actually use a cord. The problem is, I don't know if it's a problem with my new comp or my network. Other computers we have work fine, but the network drops a lot and about half the time it shows up as "linksys 2" as opposed to just "linksys". Someone please help, I'm gonna need this new laptop for college.

To test whether it's your laptop's hardware, take it to a few public WiFi hotspots. A local café or university campus should do. If the connection works fine at these locations, then you know it's not your Studio 1537 to blame.

If even the other computers have problems with the wireless signal dropping, then it's more likely than not a problem with your router and not the wireless card in your computer.

Even so, with respect to your system, do you have that particular network configured as a "Private" network or as a "Public" network on your notebook?
