Hey, I just bought hp dv5 laptop and having trouble connecting to my wireless. I could connect to the internet for brief moment then it will say "limited connectivity"

I have comcast internet provider, Linksys WRT54G, Atheros ar5009 wireless card. Fireware on the router and wireless card driver are up to date. I also tried disabling Qos packet scheduler, ipv6, tunneling.... none of them worked. still same result. The router is on Wap security, I tried WEP but still the same thing. The internet is fine if i hardwired it through modem. I also have 3 other laptop with windows XP which connect flawless through the router.

I also did clean vista install last night to see if the problem will go away, but no luck. please help

can you connect to other wireless routers?

also, does your physical location (in relation to the router) make a difference?

Did you mark the wireless network as a trusted "private" network in the configuration box under _Vista?

Before the clean install, I tried one of the hotspot with wep security. it came out with same result.
No, it doesn't. I made sure of it by placing my laptop next to the router, but same result

I am not quite understand how to follow your direction.

How wide is the DHCP range set? If it's set too small (like 3 IP's) a 4th computer isn't handed out an address. If MAC addresses access control are is it won't connect either.

    Cheers

Double check that your IPv4 is set to automatically obtain IP address.

Go to Vista Network and Sharing Center, click customize and you will be able to choose between Public and private networks. (I think it was customize)

Also, make sure that you have IPv6 disabled; it's enabled by default in _Vista and can sometimes cause interference with IPv4 networking (as well as being a potential security risk).
