Ok ive got myself in a bad situation. In my attempt to add mac filtering to my network I think I somehow while adding my laptops mac address deleted the one from my desktop. Now neither will connect to the internet, right now i have unplugged the router and am on my desktop. I cant get to my router settings with the router plugged in because theres no internet and i cant get to them right now because it is unplugged. Im totaly confused on what i did and how to fix it
-
Well try unplugging everything, then reinstall all of it, meaning reinstall your router and this shoud be your best bet. Other than that, i even am not really sure.
-
when you say re install i dont know waht else i can re install because nothing was installed everything was configured from the web site thing i dont know how i managed but ive done something no one else would probably do
-
Ok, like reinstall the router by using the cd you got with the router. If you dont have the cd, then redo the online set up.
-
Ill have another go at it but last time i tried i couldnt get an internet connection so ill probably be back with more questions if anyone else has any ideas
-
Ok, are you wired right now to the computer from the modem? If you aren't, then its going to be the Router. But are you connected directly to the modem? Also try being wired to the router and see if you can connect. Unplug all the cables too and and let them restart.

ok i am currently on my laptop and the connection is working fine so the router seems to be working its just i think i changed the mac filter so that only the laptop will work and now i can not get a connection on my desktop with the router connected, which is the only way to change the settings. I tried the reset button on the router with no luck. Im getting a message on my desktop that says little or no connectivity to my LAN when i try to repair it tells me it cant renew my ip address. so it has something to do with my connection on my desktop
so in review connection on laptop works with router
connection on desktop doesnt work with router
connection on desktop works with straight hookup to modem and no router -
Try now disabling your security. At this point, i would also do a firmware update (go to your routers site), just to make sure.
-
security is disabled on the desktop norton firewall is off and windows firewall is off
-
Yeah then try your firmware. Sorry im in pain (Burnt fingers) and have to rush. So best of luck and keep posting info and ill help you when im back in a little bit. (30 Mins)

Well I figured it out i was able to change the setting on my laptop and it was the mac filtering so after the reset on the router and the change they are both working for now until i screw it up again. thanks for the help anyway Im sure its not the last question I will have
-
