    Hi All:

I last bought a notebook computer a little over 3 years ago - an HP Pavilion dv7. I use an ADSL service and get on the internet by connecting a cable from my modem to what I think must be an RJ-11 modem input jack on my dv7 but in checking out notebooks recently I can't find anything with such a jack. Has everything switched to wifi? Has the RJ-11 been phased out? Does anyone know of a notebook that still has an RJ-11 jack? Thanks in advance.

RJ-11 is for dial up. The port that you likely used was actually a RJ-45 port which has been the standard for over a decade now. And essentially yes the RJ-11 has been phased out. Dial-up is almost no more.

I see. You've solved my problem. Yes, I was mistaken about the type of port I have. I've just learned that the RJ-11 has 6 pins and the RJ-45 has 8 pins, and the port on my HP has 8 pins too. Thanks a bunch. You've been a big help.
