When I search some of my new laptop options, I found that new half-mini pci wireless cards are now available as options (at least at Dell). It looks like their cover range is greater than previous mini pci card. Is this really true (or just in paper)?

I have been stuck in a cover range issue. My place in a library was blocked by walls and bookstacks. Signal is only one bar (11~12db..but sometimes dropped to 8~9db or disconnect/reconnect hassle). So, I changed my wireless card to Atherose AR5006XS (from intel a/b/g card) but found no difference.

I am wondering if this half-mini card would improve any reception signal. If not, what would be the best option for me (go to half-mini Intel Wireless N card?)?
