I recently purchased an HP dv9720us Laptop with Windblows Vista pre-installed and have rolled it back to Windows XP Pro SP2.

I'm having a heck of time just finding out what components are inside my laptop for searching for drivers. I pulled the laptop apart and found an FCC ID that returns an invalid search on the WiFi adapter inside. I was told it's a broadcom, but will work with Athero's drivers: NOT

I have all the device drivers, but the Bluetooth WiFi and the High Definition Audio Device (supposedly Conexant HD Audio Device Driver) for VISTA only.

I've read the sticky's and three days of website "supposed fixes", talked on the phone with HP technical support, just to find out what I had inside, since HP's stand is they do NOT support backgraded equipment to a previous operating system and the laptop was built for use with Vista. Nor, could they tell me what the component model numbers or chipset ID's are.

I had to backgrade my OS, since the DLink camera's I sell to clients ARE NOT compatible with Vista along with software I've developed.

Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Michael

Thats a common problem when you downgrade the OS on a pc design strictly for Vista. HP and Compaq are real bad about that. Dell seams to have better hardware support. Generally you start with the chipset and workout from there. You may need to set it up for a dual boot system. You should be able to find out what wireless card is being used. That info should be public knowledge. Then you may need to go to the chip/card mfg to get the correct driver.

    Sorry I can't help more.
