Ive had two of these laptops and the other one I had did not have a problem connecting to the net. I hope this isnt hardware related. Ive got the latest drivers and im letting windows do the connecting for my broadcom 802.11b/g wireless adapter. Sometimes it wont connect at all. Sometimes it goes from 11mb to 5.5 to 36 to 54 and it seems to drop connetions alot. Ive got the latest firmware on my router. My g/f's Dell connects right up and doesnt have any issues. I have my router locked down by MAC address. Could this be causing an issue? Maybe move it to WEP? Thanks for any help. This is Driving me insane.

I disabled MAC security and changed over to WEP64bit encryption. I installed a beta copy of Vista and the wireless card works perfectly now. I still have to give XP a shot with the new security to see if that fixes it. I assume the hardware is fine because it works in Vista with no issues?

    The hardware is fine :p

I have the Intel Wireless Chipset and haven't had any problems with it. In the past I had Broadcom and the connections were somewhat flakey however I used the WEP/WPA security and have the DHCP server on auto.

Why not run WPA it's more secure than WEP...
Besides kids try to break in WEP systems just for kicks these days. On other forums I see persons looking for help on setting the WEP crackers at least once a week.
