My dv6700 is great until you unplug it and go on battery. The screen dims a bit to conserve batter life but the wifi is poor when not plugged in. Web pages take forever to load, aol begins to malfunction, and transfer speeds go down the tubes. Plug it back in and within a minute, everything gets happy again. What gives. This is my first wireless laptop. shouldnt this work better than this when unplugged from the ac?

Go to your Power Control Panel and change your power settings not to power down the wireless and/or any other options to your liking. You will also need to go the the Advanced port properties for your wireless card to set it Max/constant power.
