    hey guys

my sister has a gateway with vista home premium on it and a core duo processor 1.6 ghz.

i have an hp pavilion dv2000t with vista home premium with much more ram and a much better processor, (2gb, core 2 duo 1.83 ghz) and for some reason i get a much worse connection to the internet with the Pavilion. my indicator tells me its at 60% ever right near my router while the gateway goes superfast and reads 100%

any ideas how i can fix this would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

ps, i have no firewalls up or anythign and it doesnt fix the problem.

I assume that both have internal A/B/G wireless cards built in. If that's the case, you might have to play around with the settings in order to pull a stronger signal.

On my Acer, I had to go in and adjust the Transmit Power and set the Power Management to "highest".

i think its just the driver issue... did u mean the indicator is showing 3 bar instead of 5? i found that whether you 1 meter from the router or 200 meter away..the indicator is the same(3 bar)..but mine goes fast...as fast as my pc which use a wired

It's just a indicator and no direct impact on the connection. I've seen 3 bars out distance and have higher connections speeds that 5. It's kind of like a modem telling you have a 56kbps connection, knowing that the FCC restrict the max to 53kbps.

No it possiable that your pc is have some internal interference. Check to see if there are now drivers available. A more accurate reading is dbi. Use Netstumbler and see what kind of signal you are getting.

Hey gibsonsg61, I have the same problem. My dv2000 is no more then 10 feet from the router and i always have 3 bars. My internet works very fast, so i assume is a driver issue.
