hi, i've just bought Netgear RANGEMAX router (been tinkering with this for about a week now..) and out of the box, it always drop internet connection every time i open websites, it usually only allow me to open a certain website (eg. netgear.com) then it drops connection after i browse through a few pages, then after that i can't even log in to the router. and internet connection is loss straight away after opening something that require port forward like Windows Live Messenger or LimeWire, but the funny thing is the INTERNET connetion for Windows Live Messenger/LimeWire IS STILL RUNNING! this is using a wired connection btw, i also has the same issue with my other wireless RANGEMAX wpn311 PCI adapter equiped desktop.

    this is my setup

D-LINK DSL Modem -> Netgear RANGEMAX -> Ethernet (WIRED) PC

so, is out-of-the-box RANGEMAX can't browse internet? do you need to configure it? what is NETGEAR thinking? i'm started to think that the router is faulty now...

sounds like a couple of things, i would do some research on how to properly setup the router.. sounds like you may have some of the settings wrong in itd firmware, also check your current firewall that it has allowed the new setting and use of the new "network" it will see..

the netgear stuff from my research and finding on almost every review web site on the net seems to be like this.. either having a lot of issues out of the box or going bad very quickly to maybe 6 months later. especially the netgear next one.. they are for sale refurbished everywhere and newegg, cnet, and i mean just everywhere everyone says it dies on them in no time. i decided against netgear as one of my very first desicions. they make some good stuff im sure but i wasnt going to take the chance.

imo if you dont need the n type router (not sure which rangemax that is) my first choice from now on is the buffalo whr-hp-g54 without a doubt in my mind. i own 2 now and they are solid as a rock and super fast for being g based. i have 5 bars ANYWHERE in my house period.. the hp uses a HIGH GAIN antenna and with proper firmware (aftermarket versions) it can be boosted to near 220 which is ridiculous..

anyway back to net gear i would try to setup the whole thing again from scratch. go into your routers firmware and start by turning off anything that could be stopping the connection.. then one by one you can turn them back on to see what it might have been.. def hard to help configure your network without being there to know exactly whats going one but we can try to help.. post what you have in the whole setup if nothing else works it def to me sounds like a setting in the netgear... maybe the built in firewall is conflicting with the port fowarding etc...

does this sound like a faulty router?

btw this isn't an 802.11n router. it operates in 802.11g 2.4ghz instead of 802.11n 5ghz. it even says on the box; 802.11g
