    HI,

My grandparents are getting there first laptop, they want a mac laptop, but also want a big screen, and for the 17" macbook pro it is about £2400 (i think), and understandably they do not want to pay that when most of it is going into the power. (they only want to do low power usage things like msn, word proccecing, online banking etc.) and then i had a though, they have a 40" LCD television, so, they could get a wireless keyboard and mouse, and have the laptop plugged into the television, but they wanted to have as few wires as possible, so, is there something out there that is not millions of pounds that will let a macbook use the television as a second screen without plugging the laptop into the screen?

    Thanks,
    Joe

No. You cant wirelessly stream the video into the TV without Heavy modding.
Whats wrong with a desktop plugged into the TV , it would save thousands and be more than powerfull enough... I dont understand why thed want specifically a mac when they are only doing web browsing??

When it comes to elders who have never used a pc, the MAC's are a lot better for first time users. My dad is on a MAC and I would never try to convert him to a PC. Besides most software is already installed, for handling photos and movies. I would recommend Installing FF and Thunderbird though. No need to spend all the money on software.

You will need a cable to connect the video to the TV.

Apple make good hardware, my next nb will be the 15 macbook pro. Then I can have the best of both worlds, using bootcamp.......

they want a laptop so that they can use it anywhere in the house, but they want a big screen so that they could see stuff more easily. and also, if anything went wrong then they would be stuffed as to what to do. and the chances of something going wrong on a mac are much slimmer than on a vista pc. also, they are very into how things look, and macs look alot nicer than pcs (on the whole) but also, me and my dad are both mac users, and would be able to sort a mac out more easily if it went wrong than a when a pc went wrong, especialy as it would be running vista, witch niter of us have used.

Macbook + 17"-20"LCD Monitor is your best bet. There is only one cable that goes from the MB to the LCD monitor and it can be connected and disconnected very easily.

While I'm not saying it's possible, you might be able to get away with using an AppleTV for that purpose.

Not sure if you can present the whole screen though...

Edit; I'm looking into that right now. My father wants to buy one for his nice home theatre setup that I installed, but never enjoy because he lives 50 miles away. Let me wipe off the drool now.

Edit again; Not looking promising yet. Nuts. I'm sure there is a way to do it, but it would be very involved.
