Ok, couple of problems here that require urgent assistance!

Ok this one is FIXED now. But I still require urgent help with the issue mentioned below! Thankyou!!!

The second problem is considerably more serious, although as I currently have a working laptop I have time to sort this out.

I recently reinstalled Windows XP on an Aspire One notebook after it was hit with a nasty virus. Everything is working fantastically, apart from the wireless connection. Last night (immediately after performing the XP reinstall) the internet was working perfectly through the wireless connection. Yet this morning I thought I'd turn it on and just make sure it was still running smooth only to find that I can physically connect to the wireless network BUT whenever I try to open my browser I get this "Cannot find server, page cannot be displayed" nonsense. Again, I've tried all the solutions I have seen online. Things like WinsockFix and command promt FlushDNS etc, all to no avail.

PLEASE can somebody offer some new advice? I don't understand why it was working fine last night, yet this morning it's completely dead.

Thanks in advance, greatly appreciate any assistance you can offer!

Start --> Run type 'cmd' without quotes and hit the enter button. Type 'ipconfig /all' without quotes and copy and paste those results here.

What's important to see is the ip/dns addresses that the wireless adapter is getting.

Any other network device connected to said router for Internet access?

Can you connect directly to the ISPs modem, bypassing the wireless router to test Internet connectivity?

    Ok thanks for the reply.

I'm now at a different location trying to access a different wireless network. Again, the Acer netbook has connected (says in the toolbar "Wireless connection: blah blah, Speed 54mbps, Signal Strength Excellent") but I'm getting "Cannot find server - Page cannot be displayed". As with the other network I was using, my Alienware is connecting without any issues. This has all stemmed from a fresh install of XP (I've performed the install twice now, in the hope that it would clear this crap).

Kind of hard for me to copy the DOS log from one computer to the other, (I can't even copy it from the netbook to a file on the netbook and then transfer it to my AW) so hopefully a screenshot will suffice!

That's the result. I'd like to stress that there is literally NOTHING on this netbook. Since I reinstalled XP for the second time it has NOT been able to browse the web. Really need to get this sorted ASAP, any further help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!!!

Well what is happening is even though your connected to the wireless network, your not getting an IP Address.

Since you say this is a fresh install, what service pack is windows?
I know earlier service packs and updates will have trouble connecting to wireless until they are properly patched.

    This sounds promising!!!

The disk that I used (when I say disk, I had to use WinToFlash because the netbook has no optical drive) says quite clearly "Service pack 1a" on the front. Could this be the cause of the problem? Thanks again!

Ok, I've installed Service Pack 3 for Windows XP and I'm still getting the same problem. Have I missed something???

Start --> Run and type ncpa.cpl and hit enter. Right click on the Local Area Connection (LAN) and disable it.

The wireless adapter for whatever reason is not getting a proper IP Address from your router.

Do you have the latest driver installed for the atheros wifi adapter? Click this link to get it; please download it, right click and extract the file to your desktop for example.

After that go to Device Manager. Start --> Run and type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. Look for and expand the network adapters section and right click on the atheros wireless adapter and select to update the driver software. Browse the extracted driver folder on your desktop and install the latest driver.

Now that the latest driver is installed follow the steps in this link/guide ( How to configure Windows XP to manage Wireless Network Connections | Office of Information Technologies ) to make sure Windows is managing your wireless adapter. Paying special attention to step 7 and the last part about having the Wireless Zero Configuration service set to 'Automatic' and 'Started'.

After this search again for your wifi network and try reconnecting.
