I really need to upgrade my wireless, Im using .11B thing, and I thing Im getting hacked at the moment..

I have heard of the latest one .11N. I have a card that supports N, but what router is the best? I heard of the Belkin one? N1? But it has not had the best reviews.. Also, is N neccersery? I remember when G first came out, it was really buggy.

I am also a Netgea fanboy, and would prefere a Netgear router, and need it also to have a USB port. Also, will it be backward cpmbatible, as I have other laptops in my house that dont support N.

Is there any thing else I would need for a good wireless package? And can you reccomend a good network HDD?

    Thanks,

    SuperBad89

11n is some what backward compatable , depends on the bugs in the firmware. Belkin hardware is junk, do bother with them if you want reliablity. I do not think netgear has a 11n with usb. I would look at getting a NAS device to replace your usb HD.

If you are not going to be moving a lot of Large files locally 11g will work just fine. The wireless speed only impact your local network. I would look to move to GigE ports on the router for expandability. I use GigE if I need to move a lot of files, no wireless comes close to it.

Go to www.smallnetbuilder.com and read their reviews and router chart.

I use Snap NAS's mainly because their compaitable will All OS's. But these a not cheap units, $4000-5000 for my Snap4500 when new. They are design for SMB application and located in server rooms. Smallnetbuilder has reviews on home NAS's too.

TBH, the USB is not really a neccsety. Is N overkill? Would G MIMMO be good? If so, what do you reccomend?

D-Link DIR-655 is the best one in my opinion, its what I have and I love it. I've been through 2 Netgears, and a TrendNet. This one is the best and didn't crap out on me like the others.

If you look n my signature you will see some of my hardware. I use 11g, currently use the Buffalo router setup as a AP. Connected to my 8 port routers, which I have a Managed 16 port GigE Dlink switch connected.
