Basically I Need cable internet. I limited it down to:

    1)Verizon fios - most expensive 70/mo
2)road runner- average cost 40/ mo?
    3)optimum online- cheap? 30/mo

I think im going to go with optimum but I understand they have capped download speeds in the past? Im not an uploader, do I have to worry about capping? Also there site seems kinda shady: 29.99 for 1/yr. Does that mean a contract? How can I avoid the contract, if there is one and how much more money will it be?

do you have high-speed cable or dsl internet? See if your provider has an addon package that gives you 3g/4g wireless as well as wifi hotspot (two different services). The Comcast 2Go service is one example. Cablevision, TimeWarner/RoadRunner, and Qwest have similar offerings.

I pay $30/mo for Road Runner 10Mbps. Works well, and no contract. There is a $30-40 setup fee, but after that, just $30/month. I'm also satisfied with the customer service.
