My uncle recently had high speed internet installed, well he owns 2 homes, one is his main residence the other is his work residence thats located in a cemetery. During the day he has to stay at the work residence.. the high speed internet was installed at his main house.. he would like to be able to use his high speed at the work house.

The two houses are maybe 200 yards apart. Is this possible with a good router or would it require some expensive set-up?

200 yards is very much out of range even for the draft N format...

Well, you can try high-grade line-of-sight Wi-Fi extension equipment, such as from WXLan, or run exterior grade ethernet cable underground (although you still might need to add a repeater given the distance).

If you have line of site a highgain on each side connected to 2 AP will work. Or if you have removable antennas on your router and wireless card in your office pc will work. With highgain antenna it very east to go several miles.

http://www.hyperlinktech.com/ has a wide selection of antennas and amps if needed. Should not need the amp with a good beam antennas.

Over 600ft is indeed an strech without and external system (antenna and PA). The only inconvinience of the external system is that it requires a good installation, besides LOS you'll also need to align the antenna properly and also fix it properly after a mast on the roof or elsewhere you are allowed to install it. You also have laser transceivers but they are quiet expensive.

The other way is just to cancel the whatever broadband service he currently has and get EVDO so internet follows him wherever he goes, they have very nice plans.
