    Hi all...

Problem : all of a sudden Gateway MX6124 cannot connect to any wireless networks. Repeated refresh of the networks list comes back with nothing.

    Steps taken to resolve:
    a) uninstall/install the internal wireless card from winxp device manager.
    b) Reinstall of network and card drivers.
    c) Restore winxp professional to two days back just to be sure.
    d) Reinstall the tcpip stack with the free utility and netsh commands.
    e) set the registry values to 1 per gateway techs recomendations.
    f) All other laptops on the same network, fine and working flawlessly.
    g) When connected to the network with a cable, all is fine.
    h) plugging in an external wireless card works fine.
    i) complete scan of the system comes up clean, no virus, trojan according to ewido and search and destroy.

    Need:
Some method to check if the internal card is alive or dead.

All suggestions are welcome and thanks in advance...

I am reading the forums meanwhile.....

I feel your pain, my boss's laptop just started that, and i did all the same things you already have. I thought it was something with the Verizon wireless card but got rid of it. If you learned anything please let me know, Gateway support has proved to be worthless.

Yes, I have fixed it and it is so easy and simple a fix, that one is left baffeled.

On your keyboard, press "fn" key and "F2" key at the same time. these laptops come with a "switch" , which turns off the internal wireless card. plus look at the mouse pad area for a ((((*)))) light..that should be on for the internal wireless card to work.

dont ask how i found out, cause thats even dumber then the solution...

I remember doing that, cause i was using my laptop in darkness when i pressed the fn key and wanted to press F3 key to put my laptop in standby mode, instead my "fat fingers" pressed F2, which turned the wireless switch off and I almost pulled all my hairs out of my head..

hope fully your boss has done the same..thing.......

Wow... thanks!!! I completely missed the obvious solution!!! Thanks, that solves that one!!! Now im embarrassed that it took me so long and i completely missed whats right in front of me. My dad's laptop has a switch thats actualyl a hardware switch never crossed my mind that it could be a Fn Key... and i was even scouring the thing for a wireless on/off button!!! Chock this one up for experience!!!
Thanks a tonne who knows how long it would have taken me to see whats in front of my face!!!
