OK I have been fighting with my networking for a week. I have about given up. After getting a 50ft ethernet I ran it to just under my room & plugged in the linksys wrt160n & still only got about 56mbps. My download speeds were awful running under 800kbps. When I hard wired in to the router I get over 18,000kbps  . SO I need something with better range, I am wondering do any of the expensive gaming routers have better range? I am needing about 60 ft. Going through a brick wall to upstairs & across the house. I had the old Belkin Pre-N system for the last 2 years with no connection problems & Download speeds were great, but this new lappy doesnt work with Pre-N I was getting dialup speeds. LOL right now with the wrt160n in the back room i am getting 13mbps :( So i would really like to get some recommendations on somethign with more range. I looked at the d-link dgl-4500. I also noticed these new Hawking N adapters & Dish networks at BB site.. wondering if anyone knows anythign about them?? thanks!!

With 11n draft expect problems. Smallnetbuilderr did some testing on cheap 11n hardware. I would read the article. The he compared it to the higher cost routers. With the low cost router that had to be 2.0 11n spec hardware.

ok after researching the Intel 4965agn site I decided to go get a router that complies with their specs, I got the Dlink 655 & its up & running pretty darn smooth now that I went & got a new modem to go with it HAHAA. My mbps between lappy & router isnt great but my DL & upload speeds are fabulous compared to what I was getting. this thing works GREAT with the Intel built in card as far as I can see. I just hope it keeps up as good! Gona move the router a bit closer to me to see how it goes..

    Blue,

I read that article a couple of days ago. It frightens me that this person wasn't too versatile when he tested these routers (ie, open air spaces as opposed to 1 family homes with plenty of walls, etc). I'm searhing for a good n router (most likely out of that bunch he tested) but i am clueless as to which would probably be best for me since my home is two floors with about 2-3 rooms i would be using the internet from.

    Anyone have any recommendations?

I have a 2700 Sqft home. Sitting smack in the middle of the house, in a closet of the second floor (near the floor) is my Linksys WRT600N router.

I usually use my laptop in my living room that is about 15 feet below and to the side of the router (and through the floor) and I maintain a steady 270Mbps connection. If I walk about 25 feet farther away it drops to 108. Out in my backyard (40 feet away and still through walls) it fluctuates up and down but is mostly at 54mbps still connected to N. If I connect to the 2.4GHZ band that is set to B/G then I get 54Mbps solid.

I can go anywhere in or near my house and stay connected. And yes.. my neighbors thought I was nuts walking around the house with an open laptop in hand.

Lol.. well I usually post where I got it but I forgot this time. It was $154 free shipping from Amazon but I see today its 159.

Some guy on ebay is selling REFURBS for more than that! I can't believe that people just assume because its ebay its a deal.
