If i host a 24/7 HLDS on Internet..

is it okay to host on my Wireless connection?

or should i connect a LAN cable to the Router?

I heard Wireless gives Lagging after some interval of time..

    My net speed is 3mbps,
my comp is located 2 feet from the router.

    So kindly give me advice.

Either one's fine if your Wi-Fi link is reliable.

If it were me, and I were hosting a server I would use the wire. WiFi security adds some latency. As well I would not want my blender or microwave causing the connection to get worse.

I knew someone who would go offline whenever his wife got on their treadmill :D hehe Secretly I thought she did it somehow and he just never figured out how.

I'd go with a wire. However, your wireless network is much faster than your internet connection.

Wired will not have the lag as wireless. Wired for best performance.

If its a server, you want a nice and firm connection. Wired will be the way to go, no latency, no drop outs

WI-fi will also work its just wired will always be better

yes, i did a ping test.

with Wireless the response was slow.. 3-5 ms..

with WIREd..it was always <1 MS..

so i am convinced Wireless isnt good enough.

    thanks.

honestly, you realize how loooooooooooong a 3-5ms wait is? i know techies are all about numbers (ghz and 1080p come to mind real fast), but 3-5ms shouldn't change any decisions. there are much bigger fish to fry

3-5 MS isnt a lot, your right. But for one thing gaming packets are not the same size as ping packets. Try the same ping with something like ping -l 512 and see what happens. Further, reliability is in question when it comes to hosting games via WiFi. If you were sitting next to the router sure its optimal connection but honestly why would you bother with Wifi instead of the cable. WiFi gets you range and if your near range extends you add a new dimension of complexity to your reliability equation. Interference is also a possiblity. Imagine adding multiple streams now with multiple clients connecting to your game server with inerference, compression, security and the pure fact that you have to convert the signal to wifi and back again. There are a lot of factors in there.

The only thing that is truly reliable and speed constant is the wire.

u have no idea how big is 3-5 ms ..

it spikes upto 50 ms also..

and all this non-constant timings cause LAGGGGG

wired networks are older so they are generally more reliable, cheaper and more secure
