    Hi all,

I just bought myself the new Asus V1J, and I'm very pleased with it. These last days I've tried to set up a properly working wireless network, as this is my first laptop. So far it isn't working

    The old situation:
Before I got the wireless thing going on there were 2 desktop-PC's present already. Both connected to the internet via a 4-port non-wireless router (Speedtouch 510 I believe)

    What I've done
I connected a sitecom WL-143 wireless router directly to the Speedtouch, and created a network using Windows (WinXPPro). Things weren't working, I couldn't acces the Sitecom router's "homepage" @ 192.168.1.1 which I was required for further configuration.

So I rerouted one of the desktop-PC's to connect to the internet via the Sitecom router. This gave me acces to the router homepage, and I configured the wireless network: gave it an SSID name, configured WPA2 security and entered a WPA2 shared-key. I also disabled DHCP on the Sitecom.

    The current situation
The network is detected, and after entering the WPA2-key (only the first time) the Intel ProSet tells me I'm fully connected. Ipconfig gives me an IP addres which is in the correct range. (10.0.0.153, the desktop-PC's being ...151 and ...152) Subnetmask and DNS server address are also fine.

The thing is, I can't use the internet (page not found) and I can't ping either, both to the other computers in my network and www. addresses.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions as to how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I stated that I had been able to get access to the Sitecom router homepage by wiring it to one of the desktop-PC's. When I try that now, all I get is a balloon saying "limited network possibilities" or something like that. (wouldn't know the english message, I'm using a Dutch version of WinXP)

P.P.S. I'm not an expert at this, or at any computer related subject, so go easy on me :D

You said you could not ping. Were you ping a name or IP address.

If IP address works your name server (DNS) is not correct.

You need to disable NAT in the Sitcom. All addressing and settings need to be set by the Speedtouch. Or enter directly your DNS and Gateway servers.

I can't get to the configuration page of the Sitecom anymore to turn off NAT.

I tried manually setting the IP and DNS settings on my laptop, but everytime I close the TCP/IP properties window the application freezes and I need to reboot.

Did you configure the wireless router to be an access point and not a router?

I thought that disabling DHCP would take care of this, but I guess that isn't the case then.

I'll google around on how to configure it to be an access point, but I still can't get to the router's configuration page. I'm not sure how to do a hard reset on the Sitecom, I tried pressing and holding the reset button, but that didnĀ“t help.

Generally holding the reset for 10 sec does the trick for most. Some times you hold the reset during powerup. May need to google for the manual.

set the desktop a Static of the Routers Default IP Address. Should be able to get in that way.

Also double check your entering in the key in properly.

I'm typing this whilst on my laptop, so I think that says enough :D

Hard reset seemed to work when I pressed and held the reset key when the router was booting. After that I configured it as an access point and everything is working A-OK!

Thanks everyone for your help! :D This thread can be closed.
