    Hello.

I'm having a very annoying problem with my wireless connection and I have no idea whats going on, and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light as to what I can do to solve my problem?

Firstly, my Laptop is an Acer Aspire 1690, my wireless chipset inside my Laptop is an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG and my router is a BT Voyager.

Last night, the whole of the BT Internet was down across the country (United Kingdom) for around 12 hours, and it is now up and running again. I know this because I have two other computers in the house which share the same wireless router, and they all connect to the Internet just fine, but my Laptop does not connect, and I have no idea why!

Before the BT Internet was down, my wireless connection on my Laptop was working fine, but now the BT Internet is up and running again, my Laptop won't connect to the router, but all the other computers in my house will. It keeps coming up with 'Limited or no connectivity'.

I do a lot of work here at home on the internet, and I haven't been able to do so today due to not being able to connect to the internet!

Does anybody have any tips or advice as to what it is I can do to solve my problem?

Thank you very much in advance for the help!

    Kind regards,
    -Alex.

I think it might be to do with the BT Voyager router not recognising my Acer Laptop's IP address?

I right-click on the wireless icon in the toolbar, I click repair, it does it's thing, then after a few minutes it comes up with a message saying 'Could not renew IP address'.

    Anyone?

    Kind regards,
    -Alex.

Restart. If it still doesn't work try the following:

Try going to Network connections, find wireless and right click. Repair. If it doesn't help, try disabling the wireless device, and then enable it again. If still no luck, make sure that:
    1. your notebook searches for wireless networks and sees the router, but cannot connect to it (it depends what client you are using).
    2. you entered the right password for the connection

And finally if it doesn't help either, delete the router connection settings (profile in Proset) and try again.

    I hope this helps,

    Ivan

Edit: I was typing when you posted that other info....

Then it must be something with router's DHCP server (sometimes they just stop working) - try resetting the router.

Hello there sir, thank you for the reply.

Ok, I have rebooted the router, but still no wireless connection.

I then decided to connect my laptop to my router via an Ethernet, and behold, I was able to connect to the internet!

So, it has to be a problem with my wireless adapter, but, if this is the case, then howcome I am able to connect to my neighbours wireless router but not my own wireless router?

Any ideas of what I can do now?

    Kind regards,
    -Alex.

It must be something with the password or MAC filtering on router. I would try deleting the wireless connection and do everything from the beginning (search for your router and password entering). Obviously both the comp and DHCP router service work (since you can connect through ethernet, and your neighbour wireless).

If none of the advice above helps, I would download a program called winsockfx.exe to do the repair. That usually works for me when I have limited connection and the windows repair open won't work.

Try setting the whole wifi network again from start . Change everything you can differ, WEP/WPA pass, DHCP, MAC filter. Even change the channel.

Try it without the sercuity first, NO WEP/WPA or MAC filter. And try every channel.
Uncheck all of the routers firwall settings, like nat etc:

If it works then the setup is the problem.
