Every so often my modem loses its connection to the internet and I have to either turn it on and off, or wait for it to reboot itself. Is there anything I can do about this? I have a router plugged into it, netgear wgr614 v.5; I don't know if that matters. I called time warner and they said to do some random unplugging and stuff which never worked.

Is the computer connected to the internet wirelessly? If so, it's not your modem that's having problems, it's the router. Your netgear router probably just sucks. Also, signals from other electronic devices such as wireless phones can obstruct wifi signals. You can try getting a better router, buying a wifi range extender, an access point, or a high-gain antenna to replace the antenna on your current router.

My laptop is connected wirelessly, but my desktop isn't, and it happens on that computer too. The modem itself disconnects. The "cable" light go out and then the modem has to reconnect itself. On my laptop, the connection with the router itself never goes out, and same on my desktop.

I have some sort of similar problem, but it happens whenever I lock my computer. I return and my internet connection resets itself. Its not a huge issue but if I'm downloading something then this is a problem. What can I do about this?

Also, what does a Wireless-N and G USB adapter do? Does it provide faster or stronger internet signal or just helps your wireless card to adapt to the N and G networks? I ask because this Airlink101 wireless USB adapter caught my attention in a sale paper this morning.

If its just to adapt to the N & G networks then I suppose I should pass on it since my wireless card already has those capabilities.

eastman123 If possible replace the cable going from the modem to the router and see if that makes a difference. Or call the ISP and schedule an appointment for them to come out and replace your modem. vaio2k7 pass on the USB adapter seeing how your card already has these capabilities it's just like your card, but connects using the USB port.

Call the ISP and tell them to replace their defective modem.

Thanks. I guess this is just for older wireless cards which cannot connect to G or N networks.
