I am going to be receiving a brand new Dell Inspiron 1420 (see sig), and I need to find out how to hook it up to the internet. My wireless card is a/b/g. I want to be able to use file and printer sharing between my desktop and my lappy, too. I was looking at the WRT54G. Do you have any better suggestions? I do not want to spend too much, but I want a fast, reliable connection. Thanks!

Do not buy the WRT54G model it stinks. The only 11g Linksys I would consider is the WRT54GL then flash it with rr-wrt firmware.

Dlink makes a good 11g wireless router.

If my lappy comes with an Intel Wireless A/B/G card, do I need to buy one of the Linksys adapters to put in my computer if I go with the WRT54G?

No you don't it will work fine.
    I have a WRT54G V3 with DD-WRT and works like a dream.
The WRT54GL is a better router than the WRT54G that is true.

You didn't mention how your desktop is connected to the router, but i am guessing its connected via a cable? I didn't see any mention above, but print/file sharing should be simple to setup once you get everything connected. File sharing is as simple as sharing out a folder then connecting to the PC. I always found the easiest way (unless u are using a folder a lot) is to Go to Run, and either type the DNS name of the machine or the IP. On a small network, you will be able to use the PC name as well (which would be the DNS name really).

Print sharing is fairly easy as well, but just remember that if you are wired to the desktop via USB you will have to leave the PC on. But you just add a printer over a TCP/IP port, and use they Desktop PC's IP (comp name should work as well) and then it sets up. I don't have a link handy since I just saw them, they do make a USB to Bluetooth printer adapter, that makes the printer wireless so to speak. don't know the price, but i would imagine at least 50$
