Okay so I'm buying internet for my apartment and i have two choices Qwest ( which I guess is now century link) and Suddenlink.

I'm a bit confused about what different types of "internet" they offer such as DSL vs fiber optic ect.

So does anyone have experience with either of these companies? and could someone explain the difference between the "types of internet"

    Thanks,

    Joe

For a generic overview of speed - Fiber to the Home (very rare) > Fiber to the node / Cable > DSL. However, you'll usually get about 80% of whatever speed they advertise, so if you go with a 10 Mbps plan, you'll generally at least get 8 Mbps. As far as end use is concerned, other than the type of modem you'll use, there's not really a huge difference between the different types of internet service. I generally hop between providers every year since it seems that everyone likes to offer 12 month promotional pricing, so as soon as the calendar turns over I just switch to whoever gives me the best price.
