    Hi,

I want to know if enabling firewall (COMODO) reduces internet speed?

I noticed when i play CS multiplayer on internet with Firewall enabled the game sometimes lags.

When i shutdown firewall the lag subsides.

Any security stuff will slow you down, no exception.

The new Comodo has a +Defense function. I have this feature turned off, it seams to be what slows a pc down. You may want to turn it back to a lower setting.

You need to properly configure the firewall - it shouldn't cause noticable lag.

    What is a proper configuration?

I have Sunbelt Firewall and Avast anti virus running. When I disable them, my internet connection is faster.

Of course, software firewall will reduce the internet speed because it has to inspect the packets. Don't forget that software firewall is rely on computer CPU, so it will have some latency, but not that noticable. All the firewall regarding hardware or software is just a packet controller/regulator between inbound and outbound traffic, so latency is inevitable.

If you want to firewall that can process the packets at wire speed, you have to go to big boy like Cisco. Their firewall solutions feature ASIC chip.

Make sure your applications that need internet access (in this case, HL2.exe or HL.exe) are fully trusted applications and you don't have any weird port filtering on. There shouldn't be any noticable lag with a good firewall like Kerio. The last time I turned off my firewall, I got the Sasser worm :p
