trying to set up a home network (wired)

    one is a desktop pc
    windows home w/ sp2

    one is laptop
    windows media center w/ sp2

using a dlink router DI- 704P

i ran network wizard on both computers
    - enabled file & printer sharin on both (do i have to?)
    - made sure both computers are joining same workgroup (both computers can see each other but only one can access the other, desktop to laptop)
    - made sure both computer ip addess is different (192.168.0.XXX)
    - made sure both computer are named differently

i only see each computer through workgroup computers

i can only access stuff from desktop to laptop, my laptop can only see itself =(

note: my desktop has DMZ enabled in dlink router settings and my desktop is in lan 1, laptop in lan 3

Make sure file and printer sharing is configured/allowed in your firewall on the laptop (if not third party firewall, Windows Firewall)(Start>control panel)
Also try accessing the desktop from the laptop this way
    Start>run>//desktopname

If you can access each computer under workgroup, then they are networked. Try this: my network place -> add network place -. choose another network location -> browse -> entire network -> windows network then select the folders

\\deskname is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. contact admin of this server to find out if you have acess permissions. access is denied.

Setup on the Desktop the same user/pass that you login with the laptop and then try it - You must have matching user/pass with permissions to access the shares from the pc - A work around this is my having the same administrator password on each machine, but for now make sure it works with the same user / pass and go from there.

you are sharing something from the desktop right? Setup a new user account on each pc named test with no password - log into both and shared a folder on each, and both should work -

fixed it by going into the xp home and doing this

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA\
    RestrictAnonymous:REG_DWORD:"1"

double click this key and change the setting from "1" to "0" If it was initally set to "1," this should fix your problem.
