k, here is the general set up. dsl modem connected to wan port of a d-link DI-704 router. connected to that is a switch, which my desktop is connected to. Also connected to the first DI-704 (Dlinks port to linksys wan) is a linksys WRT54GC wireless router. From that I connect wirelessly from my laptop.

I have internet access and I can ping my desktop successfully, but when I try to search for its name, or map a network drive, it can't find it.

I've tried setting the linksys to give my laptop a static ip, and enabled DMZ to my laptops IP. however this hasn't seemed to fix the problem. I also disabled the firewall options of the linksys (only my mac address can connect anyways, plus wap, and no broadcasting ssid). Any idea's, such as maybe setting up fort forwarding for windows filesharing (I don't know which ports that uses). Anyways, I'll keep looking on my own for a bit more in the mean time. thanks (And in all of 4 or 5 seconds of posting this, I tried searching the IP address of my desktop, it finds it, like it did before, so I rightclick, try hitting explore, and low and behold, a login screen pops up, fill in the info, and up comes an explorer window of all the shared folders on my desktop. stupid windows working only in odd ways. hopefully now I can map the ones I want)

connect the d-link to one of the LAN ports of the WRT.

if you dig through the linksys support online you'll come across directions for hooking two routers together... I'll see if I can find that again.

edit: well, that was easier than I thought...

this obviously describes two linksys routers, but the process should be pretty much the same with your d-link

If you wan to share files with 2 or more routers you need to turn the down stream routers into AP & switch. To do this you disable DHCP (NAT) and any firewall on the router. Set the Router to a Static IP out side of your normal range. This is need so you can access the routers admin to configure the wireless.

Or connect all of your pcs to the second router. But expect problems with some games and services dont like double firewalls.
