Sorry if this thread has been created but I tried searching and couldn't really find what I was looking for.

Anyways, my problem is that I cant seem to share files from my PCs to my Laptop. Right now, 2 wired PCs and 1 wireless PC is able to share folders [and files] with one another. All there computers are under the same workplace.

SO when I got my new laptop, I set the workplace to be identical to the other three computers and I restarted as prompted. Once I got back on, I went to the "View workgroup computers" Nothing shows up and they says "[workgroup] not accessible... Please contant administrator etc...". On this current PC that I'm typing from, I can see the laptop under the Workgroup however I cannot access any files even though I shared some folders/files on the laptop.

Does anyone know the problem behind this?

    Did you do this?

On the File and printer sharing page, do one of the following:
To enable file and printer sharing, click Turn on file and printer sharing. Windows Firewall will be configured to allow file and printer sharing on your network.

All the computers including the laptop already had that "checked off".

Do you have Windows XP Pro on your PCs? There's this option in Pro that turns on "advanced file sharing" and will not authorize any other computer to access the files. If you do have Pro, just post and I'll be glad to help you turn it off.

yeh, i do have XP pro. I turned on the simple file sharing option... but i was wondering if it's actually possible to set a password before a computer in the workgroup is able to access that particular computer?

    Clb,

With an NTFS file system, I think it has eliminated the "Password" feature as the security is now set for specific users you're giving access to. If you're not that specific user, than you can't access the folder/files. I find this way better since only specific users/groups are allowed to access these files/folders. The password method will allow anybody with the password to access the files/folders.
