    Hi,
Last week i had fibre optic installed on my line, before i just had broadband,
I use a laptop not desktop.

I have a 3-floor property and before when i had broadband the signal reached the third floor fine and never lagged/disconnected

But since getting fibre optic (UK: Talktalk) the connection sometimes lags/slows down, especially on the 3rd floor

im still using the same fibre compatible router - Huawei HG533 and the engineer fitted a BT Open Reach box/modem that sits underneath the Huawei router for the fibre.

These modems are in the sitting room which is next door to my office, which i spend most of the day,

So i was wondering how i would transfer the 2 modems to the office room next door?
would i just connect the modems with a longer extension cable - from the main phone line socket (in the sitting room) round the door frames into the office?
    or is more work involved?

i would then connect via ethernet cable instead of wireless and hopefully this will improve my connection/speed

when connected with ethernet i get 37mbps consistantly but when wireless i get 24-33mbps
and for some reason at times it seems more laggy/slower than 8mbps broadband

Double wireless networks maybe giving unwanted interference even if they are not on the same channel. (Worse if they are which is likely as ISP modems have preset channel numbers and not on auto).

I would personally either buy a new router and/or use a powerline adapter (uses the mains wiring loom as the ethernet cable) to move the router into a more central position in the house.

Having both wireless boxes ontop of each other is not good for range/noise.

If you don't have two wireless networks on, the new box might have some wireless routing functions and those weren't disabled, what is the link rate you're getting with your laptop? It's possible that you're limited in some way by the wireless gear you have, i.e. a wireless adapter that's only capable of doing 1 stream wireless N.

It's also possible that your network is on a channel that is rather crowded. You can use inSSIDer to check for that.

    Thanks for the rplies,
im not sure what the link rate is, how do i find this out?

the huawei HG533 was put on top of the BT Open reach fibre modem, but there is a 1metre cable connecting them to LAN 1 port, so is it best if i position these 2 modems as far as possible away from each other, to reduce interference?

Yes. Stacking devices on top of each other is not a good idea- especially the ones that employ any kind of radio.
