I've had insolvable problems with the internal network adapter on my Thinkpad T61. Verizon technical support suggested that I simply use an external adapter (USB-to-10/100 Ethernet). Does anyone have experience using such adapters (I know that Linksys and Belkin make them)? Is there any reason to think they wouldn't work with a Thinkpad?

    Thanks in advance,

No reason to think it wouldn't work.

describe the insolvable problems, perhaps people here can 'improve' on Verizons tech support.

I have had a few of the USB network cards. They ... are touchy, to say the least. Every one of them I had would work good for 4-5 minutes and then just drop dead. Overheat, etc.

Friend of mine is using one with no problems, apparently.

    Belkin sells the expresscard ethernet.

Make sure you disable the internal ethernet.

I have a feeling its not your Thinkpads ethernet port at fault though.

    Thanks for the replies.
I bought the Linksys USB300M yesterday, and have not installed it yet.

As for my internal adapter, I have not been able to figure out the problem, however I should probably post information about that to this forum. I did so earlier to the Lenovo Community forums and did not receive any help.

You made good not buying the Belkin, their hardware is iffy at best. I don't know why persons keep recommending there junk. If you want hardware that is reliable Belkin is not on the list. They do test good but just do not work reliability. I have and use a cheap Hawkings usb/ethernet adapter and have had good luck with it. It has never dropped a connection or crashed during huge data transfers to my servers.
