I just got a new T400 and I cannot get on the internet with it. I plugged my ethernet into it and it would not connect. It said I would be connected to an unknown network, but not connected to the internet.

Sometimes it prompts me for a username and password... But, I have comcast high speed internet and don't think I have a password.

I got online with it through a wireless connection earlier

    Anyone got some help

Do you have the driver for your gigabit ethernet port? If you don't you can grab this from Dell.

What operating system do you have? What router do you have?

    - ensure the ethernet network device is recognized and enabled (see Device Manager)
    - ensure the ethernet cable is securely plugged in
    - try rebooting the router

Another question, do you have other computers that are able to connect to the internet?

What are you connecting it to and with what kind of cable? Regular ethernet (straight) or a crossover cable?

The ethernet works fine in my desktop, that's what I'm on the internet with.

Don't know what kinda ethernet cable it is...

The router is just from comcast. Says Arris on the side

I'm going to college today, so guess we'll see if that ethernet works there

Ah well if it works with your desktop it should with the laptop as well, I've seen where people need to power off the cable modem and then power it it back on when they switch computers that are directly connected to the cable modem. You might need to try that.
