    Hello,

Ive got this issue that started happening some time last month. I connect to the internet through the WiFi signal of my 3G router, the Ericsson W25. Lately, 4 out of 5 times I turn my laptop on, I get no internet connection connection. The network says "limited connectivity". The only solution I know of is plugging and unplugging the routers power (on and off). But this is very inconvenient of course. Any ideas as to what might be happening? Any advice is greatly appreciated. :p!

Dead (or dying) router, most likely. Can any other system connect to it reliably?

Everything else (from other laptops, to my Wii) do not share this problem.

Then make sure the laptop is transmitting at the highest power setting, disable the ability to let the system turn the card on and off, and make sure you don't have any cordless phones in the area.

I don't think anyone that answered so far REALLY knows the W25, and maybe not even wireless, and maybe not even general LAN and WAN networking.

You say you get "limited connectivity" on this laptop. You say other laptops and Nintendo Wii (weee!!!! I think) work fine.

You didn't give much detail of how you're network is arranged. I assume by comparing other laptops and Wii that you mean that they are also connecting using WiFi signal coming from the Ericsson W25, so having said that...

1st of all make you get recent firmware upgrades on the E W25 - there have been a few lately. I'm not saying it will fix this, but it's a good idea dot com.

You had to configure the WLAN (WiFi Access Point) of the Ericsson W25 - which means you had to set WEP or WPA security and such. Have you tried at all changing that security and even removing it to see if that is what is "breaking" this particular laptop? I say that because some laptops, particularly older ones, or older add on WiFi cards can't handle WPA security. Windows had an update for XP for that I believe. Not sure if that would fix all computers. Could be a capability problem with a laptop that cannot handle WPA or WPA2 or such?

"limited connectivity" - This means that on that network interface (wifi on this laptop in question) that Windows was unable to contact a DHCP SERVER for it's network settings so it did it's normal "fall through" to autoconfiguration 169.254.x.x IP Addressing which basically doesn't communication with anything but other local computers that have suffered a similar fate.

If DHCP isn't getting through, and DHCP does get through to other wireless computers, then I'd go for the WPA/WPA2 compatability problem. Or corrupted security key. Try deleting that network from preferred networks in WIndows and add it again. Re-enter the key. Lather rinse and repeat trying to connect.

The W25 can take wired computes on its 4-port switch. It can also take additional wireless access points. It's a beautiful thing. But you could use that to try another wireless ap or wireless router and see if that can fix it.

    * Let me know it works out?
