    Hello!

Two weeks ago I bought this wireless router ( Edimax BR-6204Wg ) ( it was the cheapest one, something like 50$). I`m really a newbie, don`t know a lot about this wireless routers and stuff.

    I need your help!

So I`m using the router for my laptop to have a wireless internet. Is there anything that I could improve wireless signal quality and performance.

I have full 5 connection bars and connection quality appears to be excellent, but it`s not..

*Every single hour it disconnects me and it takes 2-3 to disconnect me back.
*My Internet speed has reduced a lot. It takes forever to load videos on youtube, ping is high when I play online games..

Is there any way how can I improve wireless router internet quality or I`m in trouble that I have this Edimax BR-6204Wg?

Wow - a normal router should NEVER disconnect you while surfing. Not ever. Here's what you can do:

    1) As a quick test, borrow someone's router and see if you experience the same slow speed / disconnection. If so, something is up with that Edimax.

    2) Do a tracert. Type 'cmd' in the 'Run' command from the Start menu. Then type in 'tracert' - this traces the hops from your laptop to any internet location, e.g. www.yahoo.com. Send me the resulting hop results and I can analyze it for you.

You could try updating your firmware for your router plus doing the same for your wireless card from the manufacturer's websites. Also check your power management setting to make sure they're set to max.

You need to check your lease times in the router. Set to never expire or 12 hrs. may have one for wired and/or wireless. Also make sure you nb is not powering down the wireless to saver energy. These are located in 2 areas, Energy Control Panel and Port advanced properties.

    Try these
    1. Check Firmware
    2. Power save mode
    3. Enable DMZ hosting/ Port forwarding
    4. Do you have another computer on the network? Possibly someone using all your bandwidth if you don't have an encryption setup please set one up as they're very easy.
    5. Post your router and which firmware version you have.
    6. Make sure you have the updated wireless drivers.
