I have **Tomato Firmware v1.28.9054 MIPSR2-beta E3000 USB vpn3.6** on my E3000 and I switched my channel to auto, channel width to 40MHz. For some reason, the router still defaults to 20MHz--it never change to the 40MHz width. Is this correct?

Are you on 2.4GHz or 5GHz?

EDIT: just to clarify, it is possible that you get too much interference on 2.4GHz for channel bonding to work.

Both bands are currently on. My laptop can only see 2.4GHz band. On inSSIDer, the router's max rate is rated at 144 (N). Shouldn't it be 300 (N)? I might get a lot of interference here at my house, but I thought once I set 40MHz, it should stay 40MHz (on Tomato). Hmmm...

It's a bit complicated. There are lower channels and upper channels and it depends which are you actually setting by choosing a channel number.
There are some combinations that do not work like when you're choosing an upper channel and the secondary one is the lower one you can't set the upper one to 1 or 2.
I doubt it's understandable so check what happens when you choose channels around the middle of the range- like 6.

I fixed it by clearing the NVRAM. It also applies to anyone using E4200 with TomatoUSB too. Just clear/reset the NVRAM. Simply go to Administration > Configuration > Restore Default Configuration > Erase all data in NVRAM memory (thorough). :)
