I'm not really in the know about DSL. I might be moving sometime this winter, more towards civilization I guess. I'm not sure if I will be able to get DSL there, where I live now I can't get DSL, at least not Verizon's. I havn't looked around for other companies services. Is there any way to check to see if my new house will be able to get DSL? The new house doesn't currently have a phone number or whatever. Also, is there ever a case where someone can't get Verizon dsl but another companies? Fill me in please :).

Verizon lets you check the residential address...

    Verizon Address Check

If you're looking for cheap highspeed go with DSL. If you need speed go with cable if it's available.

It all depends on what package you choose. Both, local cable providers and local telcos offer comparable speed packages. First you have to ask yourself, what are you going to use your connection for? Surfing the web, single computer usuage? Then a low 1.5 MegaBIT line from either will suffice. If you want to run a home network with multiple users trading files, then maybe a 3MegaBIT or higher. Cable vs DSL rages on with alot of hype. Typically cable does offer higher peak burst speed, but DSL speeds are more consistant. Just be sure that you know what you are purchasing since both usually require a contract. Would suck if you signed a 6 month contract for cable @ $60/month for a 4meg line when you didnt need it, and DSL offered a 1.5 for $12/month with a 1 year contract. GL

BTW, right now my local telco is offering me an upgrade to 6Mbit line for $34/month. Tempted. But not needed.

If you are into online gaming, Cable (comcast) will have higher lags times than dsl.
