I just ordered an M1530 and a T61 both have Draft N cards in them.

Our ISP is Verizon FiOS and we have a modem/wireless all-in-one instead of them being separate. If I wanted to jump up to a wireless N router, could I just disable the wireless part on the all-in-one and hardwire a new wireless router to that?

Any Cons to doing that? Networking items are the only things I don't understand.

EDIT: Also, someone at work has told me that even if an older laptop with a wireless G card would benefit range wise from upgrading the router to N. Is that true?

Yes, you can disable the wireless in the "all-in-one modem". Go to 192.168.1.1 in your address bar and go to the settings. There should be an option in there to disable the WLAN or Wireless
