Any way to download something half-way, pause, change your IP address, and resume the download? Sounds illogical to me, so I'd assume it's not easily possible.

I don't use any personally, but I believe there are some software applications that allow you to keep track of large file downloads so that you can stop them and resume even a few days later potentially. With this being the case using such software I am sure you could probably resume the download under a different IP.

The software will essentially "mark" where your download left off and when you start downloading the same file from the same source again it will quickly assess and get you back up to the point of the download where you left off. I am sure there are similar version of such software for a variety of different OS's. I have never had a need to use such software and can't speak from personal experienc, but have had it mentioned to me a few times now.

Out of curiosity, why the need to resume under a different IP?

Thanks for the response, but I've tried download managers, but they require you to remain on the same IP address, since data is being sent from their IP to yours, if you change it, it's like changing your street address - the file can't find you anymore. Thus I'm looking for not only a pause function - which most download managers have - but a "redirect" so that I can pick it up on a different IP.

The reason is I'm limited to 1 GB of info per rolling 24 hours. Which apparently means that I actually can get ~2.3 GB before the internet cuts off - it's on a time delay. If I change my MAC, the limit starts again, but that means I have a different IP address. I usually don't download much, but I have a 4 GB file that I want.

well for download managers, its up to the site you are getting it from. some may only allow you to resume it from the same ip address, while others dont care. its not upto the downloading client, but the site itself.
