I've had a shiny new Netgear router for 4/5 days now and alls been working perfectly, but i turn on my lappie today and find i cant loging to anything. Cant login to eBay or my email (either via net of Thunderbird) nor Eve online, tried clearing cache and cookies, tried rebooting and using IE, tried running Adware and Nod32 all to no avail.

Then had the idea of maybe its the router, so logged into it and had the idea of port forwarding. So selected the preset HTTP option, added and allowed it.

It worked... Hows that make any sense? Why would i need to adjust my port forwarding to allow me to login to websites, and why has it been working perfectly fine untill today?

OK its not HTTP forwarding that fixed my login problem, its changing any forwarding that fixes it. Booted up today and couldnt login to them again, ignored it for a while and decided to play some games. For one i needed to enable a port to play, so i did, and right after i could suddenly login into the varrious sites again.

Am i stuck with a borked router or is it a simply case of a wrong setting somewhere, needing to add any random port forwarding to use the net is stupid.

Try doing a hard reset on your router. You might also want to upgrade the firmware, if an update is available. You should also visit Netgear's site and look for known issues with your router and/or a suggested fix for your problem.
