Just replaced my WRT-54g with DD-WRT with a brand new D-Link DIR-655 Draft-N router. I am quite please setup port forwarding, and have QoS on automatic we'll see how that goes. So far so good. Very quick compared to my 54g. My Intel draft-N card is getting 130mbits / second which I can live with considering no bonding available since only 2.4 ghz range. Great router for sub $120 from Amazon.

The QoS auto classification is pretty cool, and the GB ports for the switch are pretty awesome.

I have that router also. I am very pleased with it. I had to get a D-Link DWA-643 Express card to run 300mbps, but it does consistently. I have used Linksys and Netgear, but so far I like the D-Link the best. Great coverage in my house, good throughput.

no, really the basic settings. I think using the D-Link card is my success story. I wasn't having good luck until then. Increased range, steady signal, no drop outs. And I'm still running in mixed mode because of a "G" Lexmark wifi printer. I didn't expect this great performance.

    F/W 1.10
    Auto Ch
    Auto Trans Rate
    Channel Width- Auto 20/40
    WPA2 ONLY- AES
    DHCP Enabled
    WAN Traffic:
Enable Traffic Shaping, Auto Uplink Speed
Advanced Wireless: Transmit Power High, Beacon Period-100

Be glad to let you know any other particulars, just ask......

Again, after using numerous routers and adapters, it's clearly evident that using the same manufacturers equipment has jump started my speed and distance. I'm also using a program called WirelessMon, got it off the internet. 30 day trial, then I got the Pro version. It has some great features and you can graph the signal strength o wireless connection vs time, etc. I love the program. Lots of good information. Let me know if you need some "help" :) :) with it.

Have you seen any way to controll the transmit power as you could with dd-wrt?

I've used that Router and my Linksys 350N with DD-WRT. I have to say that the A2 revision is one of the best out of the box routers ever.

The only thing is Dlink really cheapened the newer versions and they can't handle as high a WAN load as well as WLAN. One thing Dlink did was also screw around with port forwarding it took me an hour to figure how to forward ports for a VPN. They have "port forwarding", Port triggering and their "Virtual Server". The only real one of the 3 that does real port forwarding is Virtual server. The other ones open the port then breaks on it's way to the machine.

And the USB port what a waste, it has the CPU power to do SAMBA too bad they didn't take advantage of it.

What can I say it just doesn't have a storage link, USB web cam ability that DD-WRT has and VPN server ability.

Regarding this router, can I set it up where I can use both 802.11n/5 GHz and 802.11g/2.4 GHz at the same time? My Macbook Pro would use the 5 GHz option, but my wife's HP laptop is 802.11g only and I'd rather not have to buy any extra equipment.

If you want to take advantage of the 802.11n speed, you'll need to buy a couple of new D-Link Xtreme cards for your laptops. I plunked down the cash and haven't regretted it in the least.
