Has anyone used their netbook to try to get a landline connection? I saw a usb mini external modem at pc world (with one of those small disks I had so many problems with in the past...).
I normally use Windows but does anyone know how to set up a land line connection on Linux and is this easily compatible? This whole thing is looking complicated already.
I use broadband but may be in parts of the world where there is only a landline...

What version of linux? what is your modem you have/want to get?

Not sure. This would be the Linux version that is the default in Asus netbooks. The problem is that these netbooks only have an ethernet port which is no good for dial up.
The modem I'm interested in getting would be an external one (ie. Zoom 56 V92/V90 mini external), but I would need to get an external cd-rom/dvd as well in order to install the disk and other things.
I may even skip Linux and get Windows XP... -

I use a USR USB modem when at my dad's. He lives in the country and that's all there is. I've used the Apple one too. The usr seams to give a high connection speed and supports most all OS's. Size is a 1" x 1.3" x 4", it does run warm but it's handling the processing offloaded from the OS.
