I have a lynksys wireless G router connected by cable to my desktop, and my laptop has a B/G wireless card installed. Both are able to get interent connectivity.

However, when I try to get access to files from one PC to another, the following occurs:

    1) Desktop: I go to "View workgroup computers", both the laptop and desktop are there under the same workgroup name (different PC names), but I get the following message: "(laptop name), is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this resource, contact the administrator of the server to see if you have access permissions. The network path was not found"

    2) laptop, again, I have wireless interent conncectivity no problem. But here, when I go to "View workgroup computers", it does not even open that window, it just displays that error message from above. It does not show the desktop icon anywhere.

I have gone through the networking wizard, and the wirelss networking wizard. File sharing is on, and I have tried disabling the firewall...still no luck. Any ideas?

Oh yeah, the notebook is running XP home SP2 , and the desktop is running XP pro I believe.

    Thanks!

Did you share the drive that contains the files? Did you disable the firewall on both PCs? I would try to turn off simple file sharing. I personally do not like Microsoft's firewall if that is what you are using. I would direct you to ZoneAlarm. It is free for personal use. There is a checkbox in there somewhere to share your printers and files on the network. I can't remember if Microsofts is the same since I disabled it. There is post a few down by binky43 who was having the same problem. It might be worth reading to get some ideas. Good Luck.

Yes, I read that previous post, and I tried disabling all the firewalls.
I do not see a "simple file sharing" choice anywhere..only file sharing.
Could there be a firewall built into the wireless router that is interfereing??

figured it out...My new laptop PC had MacAffe firewall installed (didnt even realize that)...All I did was grant permission for my desktop PC using its IP address and everything is fine now....

the computer browser in windows is a joke, i just disabled the service and i type in the computer name that i want to get on to in start and run, i have NEVER had a problem, works everytime even if the computers are not in the same workgroup, if you are behind a couple routers, its better to type in the ip.
